I plugged this combo in to my USB port and restored from Time Machine on my external drive, and all is back to normal. After I do the work to install the drive internally, I'll have further backup options using this dock. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from. Customer Videos. It is reliable and connect HDD or SSD with easy.
One day my internal SSD in iMac died. I had solution very fast, I just plugged in new SSD as external bootable and worked with it almost 2 months before I finally decided to fix my internal SSD. It was constantly turned on for 2 months as I am not shutting down computer, but using sleep option, and I am still using it for external backup HDDs.

It really was plug and play.
I was able to use the new 2 TB Drive right away and created 5 partitions and cloned my main drive before I upgraded my system. Restarted using it to check everything out. Worked like a charm. I would recommend this item to a friend! This review is from.

If you have old hard drives from a former machine-just take them out. Then connect the new Dock, and put them in it, about like putting bread in a toaster.
Power up, all works again! Great product. I would recommend this item to a friend!

The second one for music, photos and sometimes for a back of the time machine or if something went wrong with one voyager I would still have a back up not that it will because I have an voyager S2 on my other computer for 6yrs. And hasn't missed a beat with all the HD swapping I have done.

Verified Buyer Reviewer: Matdat Rating: 5/5 The only way to upgrade your iMac's hard drive March 27, 2017 There is a reason I've been an OWC customer for 20 years now. They support Apple products like no one else! OWC supplies ALL the tools, parts and even a quality video showing you a step by step instructions on how to get your upgrade done. The Voyager S3 made copying my old internal hard drive over to the new drive extremely easy. Easy to setup, use and it works! What else could you want?
There is no need to look anywhere else for your Mac upgrades. Thank you OWC!! I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos. Verified Buyer Reviewer: WaltP Location: Friendswood, TX Age: Over 65 Experience Level: Home User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 5/5 Super easy to use March 20, 2017 I bought this docking drive to handle backup activity with one of my MacBooks. The idea was to make it really easy to connect to the computer and to use multiple HDD's. Boy, that's exactly what I got!
The USB cord is about as easy at things get for connecting to the computer, and the dock itself is super easy for connecting a HDD. Just push a HDD onto the connections, and you're ready to go! It may make it too easy to eject a mounted disk without thinking. It would be wonderful if one could put in a drive taken out of a Mac laptop or iMac without having to remove any of the mounting studs.
Just a couple of slots in the plastic would've accomplished this. Great for data recovery and archiving projects on hard drives. I would recommend this item to a friend! Customer Videos. December 5, 2016 I don't need this tool nearly as often as when I was doing more tech work, and rehabbing old Macs for myself and others. For several years, I've just swapped drives in and out of several external cases I have. But you cannot beat the convenience of just dropping any SATA 2.5 or 3.5 HDD into this dock, and mounting it for repair, reformatting, cloning, or whatever. It makes drive upgrades a breeze. USB 3 interface makes this pretty fast, and the backwards compatibility to USB 2 (and I suppose even 1.1) makes it versatile enough to use with any Mac, or virtually any PC, built in the last 10 years. A great timesaver, and highly recommended. I would recommend this item to a friend!
Customer Videos. Verified Buyer Reviewer: Anonymous Experience Level: Power User Owned Product: 1-3 months Rating: 4/5 Overall very good. March 14, 2016 I have used an earlier model for weekly backups and archiving files for the past 3-4 years and never had any problems, nor with this one in the 3 months of use. The older model has a 2 TB drive limitation but I have used this one with 4 TB hard drives. Vmware fusion 7 (for mac os x hong kong institute of vocational rehabilitation. It would be nice if there was a flap or separate cover which would entirely block the drive opening instead of just reducing it to a 2.5' drive outline. I live in a very dusty house and the opening just invites dust and lint settling on the drive connectors.
I guess I can use an inelegant plastic bag when the drive is not in use. The power adapter as I have it now is plugged directly into a powerstrip and with my strip covers a total of 4 outlets! It looks like one should be able to remove the plug and perhaps use a cord instead but I just looked at my box and do not see or recall seeing a separate cord.
I tried to remove the plug and it is in there so tightly or the release button just is not working I was worried about breaking it just to see what kind of cord it would take. The older design which sat with the shorter side towards the user fit better on my shelf.
I like the addition of power button but is is at the back of the unit and fiddly to reach instead of on the top front as part of the operation light display (it just looks like a button). My information may be out of date but even with a power button of this kind the adapter may still draw power when the unit is turned off so I like to keep mine plugged into a powerstrip I can turn off completely. If the adapter were inside the unit the power button could really fill a purpose and it would reduce clutter. I would recommend this item to a friend!
