I have a student taking my online Stats course who has run into trouble getting SPSS to run on her Mac. She downloaded the Mac GradPack version of SPSS. She bought it from eAcademy.
When she tries to open the program she gets a “server login box.” She has tried various things and has not been able to get past this box. The Mac she has is: Mc iBook G4 version 10.5.6. Model Name: iBook G4 Model Identifier: PowerBook6,5 Processor Name: PowerPC G4 (1.2) Processor Speed: 1.33 GHz Number Of CPUs: 1 L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 768 MB Bus Speed: 133 MHz Boot ROM Version: 4.8.7f1 Serial Number: 4H5070DCS85 She was told by eAcademy that the Mac GradPack version of SPSS requires an Intel based Mac computer and that the iBook G4 doesn’t have an Intel base processor.
Since I am NOT a Mac user, I am clueless on how to help this student. Does anyone know if the information supplied by eAcademy support is accurate? More importantly is there a way for her to get the “Mac version” of SPSS software to run on her Mac? The student is feeling taken advantage of since the license for the Mac version is for just for six months and for a destitute grad student is very expense. She is feeling her fee dribbling away day by day and the class is moving on without her. Thanks for any help you can give.
