I was hoping that some of you could assist me in getting a Pioneer DVR-115D to work on my 733MHz Quicksilver G4. The computer originally came only with a CD read/write drive and zip drive- no DVD player or other DV capabilities. (though iDVD was loaded but not functional without the needed hardware) I need to produce a DVD for my students and bought the Pioneer drive after reading online that it would work with my system when using Patchburn 1.1. The Retailer also confirmed that it would work with iDVD from OS 10.2.8. Here is what my computer sees: CD-RW/DVD-R Disc Burning Not Supported Unit Number 0 ATA Device Type atapi Device Serial Device Revision 1.18 Product Identification DVD-RW DVD-115D Vendor Identification Pioneer As you can see, the computer is seeing the drive and I can load a CD into the drive and access files from it.
But the computer will not allow burning from iTunes or iDVD and states that burning is not supported. I used the Patchburn 1.1, which says that it was successful in adding the needed driver. But the computer still will not give burn support. Can someone tell me if this is a hardware problem or software problem. Also, if I want the computer to be able to play the DVDs that I burn, how can I get DVD Player installed? Might it be on the original discs even though this computer didn't come with a DVD Drive? If not, where can I get a player that is compatible with OS 10.2.8?
Thank you all very much for any help that can be offered. DVD player isn't the problem, it is a.compatible drive. that is the problem. You could reinstall the OS X software (can you boot to the OS X install disc with the DVR-115?), and then you wil have the DVD player software. From all available information that I have, the DVR-115 simply is not supported earlier than OS X 10.3. I don't care what Meritline said.
They are not a Mac specialist. I cannot find a single source that I trust (or otherwise) that can validate that claim. Is a Mac specialist. Please see 'DVD Player Support' under the 'Mac OS System Support' section of the linked page.
The fact that Patchburn was not able to get the drive burn support is another confirmation. I have used (still use) and still recommend. Marvelous utility. But, even if you get DVD player on your machine, You still don't have burn support. If you pay more money than the drive was ever worth, you can get a DVR-106, if you can find it.
Maybe check eBay for a used one. Upgrading to Panther or Tiger isn't a problem for your OS 9 applications. Both Panther and Tiger support Classic mode, and will run your OS 9 applications just fine. I still use many of my OS 9 applications in classic mode under Tiger. You can get a retail (must be retail) version of Panther or Tiger (Black with a Silver X) for between $20 and $60 on eBay. If you do upgrade your OS, you will wonder why you waited so long.
Hi- Welcome to Discussions! You will need to upgrade your OS to use the DVR-115. In Mac OS X previous to OS X 10.3, DVD player is not supported. How can I get DVD Player installed? The software installs when the OS is installed, if a DVD drive is present.
An OS reinstall, or, use of to extract only the DVD player application will get DVD player on your system. Problem is, Pacifist also requires OS X 10.3 and higher. I'm pretty sure the 'latest' Pioneer drive to work in Jaguar (10.2.6+) is the DVR-106.
The DVR-106 has always had it's share of problems.especially in older versions of OS X. Panther (10.3) and more-so, Tiger (10.4) are far better OS versions than Jaguar. Even if you get compatible hardware, Jaguar has very limited capabilities. Highly recommend upgrading your OS. Hi- Welcome to Discussions! You will need to upgrade your OS to use the DVR-115. The problem I'm facing with a tight budget is that upgrading the OS means upgrading my entire production software package of Adobe products which are still running in OS 9 Classic!! (I know, I know - Ancient!) I teach art classes and have students clamoring for copies of a demonstration video that we filmed in class, so I'm looking for the most quick and affordable way to get the master burned from my computer.
Is there any other workaround? Multiple sources, including Meritline.com, from whom I bought the drive, said that the DVR-115D would work in my system with Patchburn. Are they wrong? Flat out lying? Any other data would be helpful.

Follow Up: While investigating the OS upgrade I spoke with a technician at FastMac.com who thought that the Pioneer DVR-115D should work on 10.2.8 using Patchburn 1.1. He asked if I had tried to patch more than one profile and suggested that I restore the list and try a Pioneer or Matsheta profile with a number close to the 115. The closest one on my list was a Pioneer 111 (I had previously patched a generic Pioneer profile). When I patched the DVR-111 the program said that the patch was successful (as before) but now support read as YES and the system profiler reads.disc burning fully supported!!. I have now successfully burned six 90 minute DV-R discs from iDVD2 on this setup. So, for anyone else wanting to use the Pioneer DVR-115D with Patchburn 1.1 in OS X 10.2.8, I would suggest only that you make sure to patch the Pioneer profile in Patchburn that most closely resembles the 115 - probably the DVR-111. Pardon me if I can jump in here: I just bought and installed 2 Pioneer DVR-115D, one in my PowerMac G4 MDD 1.25 GHz, and the other in my PowerMac G4 Firewire 800 Dual 1.25 GHz.
The System Profiler for my MDD reports my two DVD drives as follows: Pioneer DVR-105 Firmware A506 Burn Support Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported) and Pioneer DVR-115D Firmware 1.18 Burn Support Yes (Unsupported) I have not booted my FW 800 Dual yet, but the two drives in it should be: Pioneer DVR-108 that I previously used Patchburn (not Apple Supported) on and Pioneer DVR-115D Firmware 1.18 just like the one in my MDD described above. My questions are these: Do I need to run a newer version of Patchburn on the new DVR-115D's, and which version of Patchburn do I look for? The System Profiler on the MDD is a bit confusing, since it says Burn Support Yes (Unsupported). So, will it burn from iDVD, etc. As-is or not?
Also, if I use Patchburn, how do I selectively update only the DVR-115's, and not the 105 Apple or the 108 previous Patchburn? Sorry if this seems confusing in writing. Thanks, Maclanta.
